Leeds Festival 2018.... Day Three!!!

For the final day of the festival I had a full tinsel outfit planned. I actually got the shorts from Pretty Little Thing and the jacket from Nasty Gal but they are pretty much the same tinsel so matched really well. They have a black background with rainbow strands of tinsel all over. I struggled to find a top that looked right so made a last minute decision with my Jaded London spike sequin top as the colours in it were a perfect match. It was raining again so I decided to wear my glitter baker boy hat again to try and shield my face a bit and I’m so glad I did, it also matched really well with the ombré lilac wig I wore. I wore my mermaid shell earrings and a black sequin choker. As it had rained loads that morning I decided not to risk wearing my docs even though they would’ve gone perfectly. But I didn’t want to ruin them in the mud, so I reluctantly wore some clear wellies with some glittery unicorn socks underneath.

For my make up I wore pink glittery eyeshadows and a metallic lipstick. I wore my all in one light up face jewel which I think has got to be one of the best inventions ever. I also wore some smaller face gems under my eyes and the colours matched the other gem perfectly. I added a few extra gems to the side of the main face gem and used my liquid lipstick to do some dots and lines under my eyes. I then added some glitter to some of the lines for some extra sparkle. I also wore my light up all in one body jewel on my chest, then did stripes of purple, pink and multicolour glitter around it.

The rain hit hard all morning so again we ended up leaving the tent later than we’d planned, but eventually we had to brave it. We managed to get to the main stage to see some of Sum41 who were great and Mike Shinoda joined them on the stage for the last song to do ‘Faint’ a Linkin park cover which was a real moment. We then headed over to the Radio 1 stage to catch some of Sigrid before heading back to see Dua Lipa. I was really sad as she clashed with Pale Waves who are one of my fave new bands but as I’ve seen them a few times and hadn’t seen her we thought we’d see her instead. She was really good live and had dancers throughout making it a fun pop performance and something a bit different to the rest of the acts on the bill. She had massive singalongs (mostly from the girls) especially for ‘IDGAF’.

We then went over to the Pit for Blood Youth who were on early, so we got to see more of N.E.RD than we thought we would. We arrived in time for all the bangers and they were really good. Another annoying clash was Deaf Havana and Yungblud. We saw Yungblud at community festival and he was great and I love his album but Deaf Havana are one of my fave bands so we had to go for them. They played a lot of songs from the new album that’s just been released, I loved hearing the new songs live but it would’ve been nice to hear some of the older stuff too especially for a festival set, and unfortunately it was quite a short set. I’m hoping they announce another tour soon so I can see a full headline set again soon.

We then went to the festival republic stage to see Spring King, a band that always bring the energy. Even though the tent wasn’t that full they got everyone starting mosh pits. We then caught some of Beartooth in a very packed pit. We headed over to the main stage for Kendrick Lamar who ended up being about half an hour late. It decided to start chucking it down during this time which put a bit of a dampener on the night. We was unsure if he’d play past the usual finishing time as he was late and we realised afterwards that he did in fact cut the set short, as Reading got quite a few more songs. We left near the end to catch the end of Kate Nash and only actually missed one of Kendrick's songs. He is really good live but it is a shame when acts can’t come out on time, especially if it means the set gets cut short, even more so with a headline act as a lot of people would’ve gone especially to see him.

In the evening I finally got to wear my amazing light up fur jacket. It is a cream short fur coat with a hood, in a super soft material and has lights running through the inside of the coat with battery packs on either side, so it will never run out. It also has two settings of still and flashing multicoloured lights. I also had my light up gems on my face and chest, so was literally lighting the fields up!

Overall the festival was great, although the crowds do seem to get younger each year (or we just get older) it seemed even younger this year and there seemed a different vibe. The people in general seemed different and to be more there for the rap/dance acts on the line up. The line up has got a lot more diverse the last few years but it was dominated more by that sort of music with acts likes Post Malone/Travis Scott which I really just don’t get, they all sound the same, like they’re autotuned to sound like there singing underwater. Maybe this is really just showing my age but I just don’t get it and these were the acts that were getting the huge crowds in, whereas although some of the bands were still getting the crowds there were so many bands that didn’t seem to have much of a crowd at all. I get that this happens and times change but it is a little sad that this is the case when reading and Leeds was always about these indie/rock acts, which is also why I always went to this festival. As much as it’s nice to have variety on the line up I think it would also be nice to stick to their roots too, as there are so many festivals out there now with very similar line ups and not as many that do cater for just the indie/rock genre. I’m hoping they can make up for it with next year’s line up and I’m hoping the tradition of the ‘secret set’ act headlining the year after happens with Bring Me The Horizon!!
